Fishing
Report for the weeks of 12/16/06 - 12/29/06
Once again the weather
has kept us and most everyone else off the lake. The bite has slowed down with
water temperatures from 40 to 44 degrees, however minnows have been working
fair to good with most bass only in the 3 pound and less range. The crappie
bite is off and on with only about a dozen or so for the day. Thanks to all
my clients for another great year (approx 4,000 bass were caught in
2006). Hope to see you-all again plus some new friends in 2007!

Fishing Report for the week of 12/09/06
- 12/15/06
Rainy weather kept my clients off the water this week but I
did go out by myself and did ok catching a 5½ pounder with the good old drop
shot method plus some others. The Lucky Craft pointer minnow rip bait produced
quite a few bass to 3+ pounds. The best reports I have heard around the lake was
an 8 + caught on ?? . The north end of the lake around Nice and upper Lakeport
has been kicking out bass on split shot rigged with a 6" worm and some
crankbait fish are also being caught. Not sure what is going on in the south
end. Dress warm it's cold again..."Tight Lines" Richard

Wind and rain in the upcoming forecast will
make it harder to get to some of your fishin spots as it did for my client this
morning but he still got on some bass to 3.8 pounds. Minnows are your best bet
in water from 6' to 15' mid lake south also shakey head with a 6" worm
has been doing good in the Lakeport and Nice areas. Water temperature has been
around 50° by mid day. "Tight Lines" Richard

- 12/01/06
Cold weather has just about stopped the
"reaction bite", however the drop-shot and jigs fished very slowly are
doing good around docks from County Park to north of Lakeport. Minnow fishin'
has been the go to bait if you want to catch a lot of fish. Clients today did
very good on minnows with 35 in the boat plus a couple of big ones in the 5
pound plus range that got off at the boat. Oh well it happens.. Dress very warm
in the am. "Tight Lines" Richard

Now that the weather has turned cool (mid 30's
in the am), the water temperature has gone down and so has the lure bite.
This week I only had a couple of half day minnow trips which worked out very
good with a lot of bass to 5 pounds caught in the Lakeport and County Park
area. No reports on how the "lipless" crankbait bite has been
doing this week, I'm sure it's ok but you should fish them very very slowly in
water from 5' to 15'. Dress warm and hope to see you out on the
water.. "Tight Lines" Richard

Not much has changed from last weeks'
report other than the bite has improved using the same pattern: "lipless
crank Baits". Clients this week caught a lot of bass to 6 pounds with most
of them in the 3 to 4 pound plus range. It's been a lot of fun! "Tight

Fall weather with some rain has increased the
bite somewhat. Clients this week did very good on"lipless" crankbaits,
yo-yoing them in water from 8 feet to as little as 2 feet of water. Drop
shotting has also been working as well as jigs fished very slowly, however no 5
lb'ers but a lot of 3 to 4 lb'er's. No minnow fishing as of yet, but it
will start to turn on in about another two weeks. Have fun out there and
keep a "Tight Line" Richard

The bite is just about
the same as the last report, however I had a chance this week to pre fish for
upcoming clients and did very well with 8 & 7.4 lb'ers on the drop shot,
also caught fish on lipless crank baits by "yo-yo-ing them up and down in
water from 3' to 10' in the north end of the lake. Dress warm in the morning and
start to strip in the afthernoon. Water temperatures are around 60 to 63
degrees. "Tight Lines" Richard

Is it Summer or Fall? That's what I
think the bass are asking themselves. Fishin' has been slow again this week.
Lipless crankbaits have been on and off this week as well as the drop shot but
the best bet has been the drop shot. The trick is in finding clear water (at
least 2 to 3') most of the lake is brown from algae and it keeps moving around
so you just have to keep looking. Clients and I fished south the other day but
could not do well in the deeper water, most of all the clients' fish this week
came in water around 4'. Good fishin' and have fun!! Richard

A lot of prefishing for upcoming
tournaments for the last two weeks has put a lot of pressure on the lake.
Spinner & crank baits have been working in both deep and shallow water. The
same goes for jigs & drop shotting, however the bass are only weighing in
from 1.8 to 3+ lbs with an occasional 5 or better lb'er. The weather is supposed
to get in the 80's this weekend so the bite may pick up...Let's hope so!!

Fishing Report for the week of 9/23/06 -
9/29/06
Cold weather has dropped the water
temperature from around 78 to 64 degrees in the mornings which has cooled down
the bite. I only had a few trips this week and they were all just 4 hours.
However clients were still able to catch from 8 to 12 nice bass on drop shot in
the north end, the first light in the morning was the best time, after 9 am
there were just a few bites. So get out there early and have some fun.

Cold and windy weather has slowed down the bite quite a bit
but there are some good bass still being caught. Clients did so- so this week
catching bass to 5 pounds with most in the 3 pound range. Drop shotting a baby
brush hog has been the best bet. With fall just around the corner and the water
temperature and lake level dropping, the shad should start their move to the
shallows where aquatic nutrients are more abundant. As of now though its not
happening, at least not in large numbers. All the bass we caught this week were
in 4 to 20 feet of water, from the narrows south in the Oaks arm and the Redbud
arm. "Tight Lines" See you on the water.. Richard

Fishing for the first part of this week was very good with a
lot of top water action first thing in the morning on poppers, then some
crankbait fish but most of the bass were on drop shot to 7½ pounds. Now with
this cold front, the bite has slowed down, let's hope the wind will go away
soon.. Clients today braved the wind and did ok with only one on a crankbait and
the rest on drop shot in water from 2' to 20'. Our best fish came in water only
2' deep on a shad pattern crankbait (3.11lbs.) all the rest were on drop shot
with a 6 inch worm in water approximately 15' to 20' deep next to sharp drop
offs close to shore. Now with this fall weather starting, the shad will start a
big move into the shallows and the bass will be right behind them getting fat
for the winter. It's one of the best times of the year, so stay tuned..

The fishin'just keeps getting better with
clients catching a number of bass from 5 to over 8 pounds this week. Both ends
of the lake are kicking out some quality bass. Try a little of everything ie: Lv
500 in shad and crayfish pattern, Persuader' "Double-Buzz, buzzbait &
spinner bait in bleeding minnow, frog and of course the drop shot which
accounted for an 8.2 lb'er this week. Most of the fish are being caught in the
am in water from 2'to 10'. Oh, I left out that the topwater bite is very good in
the early morning on spooks and poppers. Look for feeding bass on shad. The
trick is to keep moving until you find some bass (don't stay in one spot too
long). Hope this helps. Stay safe it's a busy weekend with the Stratos tourney
for the next two days. See you on the water. Richard
