Fishing Report for the week of 12/10/05 - 12/16/05

Clients this week had a ball catching about 80 crappie on Tuesday, some as large as 2.5 pounds.. Kept some and the rest went back.  Also on two other trips the bass bite was very good, using a variety of lures and minnows. Drop shot, darthead with a 6" worm and rip-baits were all  getting the job done.  Most of the bass were in the 3 to 4+ lb range and caught from mid lake north.  "Tight Lines"  Richard

Fishing Report for the week of 12/03/05 - 12/09/05

With the water temps down to 47 to 52 degrees the bite has slowed down but clients are having good luck using soft plastics fished very, very slow. Try dartheads in about 3/16 ounce around docks and on breaks in the south end, also in the north end. Jig's and drop shot are also working. If you like a lot of action go crappie fishing around Shag Rock and Kono Tayee. Dress warm for the mornings, its cool..   "Tight Lines"   Richard

Fishing Report for the week of 11/26/05 - 12/02/05

The bass bite is fair using artificials. Clients braved the strong weather this week to catch bass up to 5 pounds on lipless-crank baits, spinner baits and soft plastics. We had our best bite in the north end in water from 2' to 8' but you have to fish them slow in the cooling water (temps from 50 to 55) Now is the time for minnows, those big girls just can't resist them. If you want to know more about fishing minnows just give me a call or email and I'll clue you in. Dress warm out there...  "Stop wishin and lets go fishin".....Richard

Fishing Report for the week of 11/19/05 - 11/25/05

This week the weather was about as nice as it could be, except for the very cool mornings. Clients did ok but the bite slowed down because of the nice weather (no wind and a lot of sun). Now that the weather is changing (rain and some wind) look for the bite to get better. It seems as though the bass have moved out from in back of the creeks and sloughs and are in the front of them and starting to spread out along the docks and tules. Clients did the best using spinner and lipless crank baits mostly in the mouth of sloughs and the front of docks in the Lakeport area.  The crappie bite is starting to turn on in the deeper water around Shag Rock and Konocti Harbor Resort. Hope you-all had a very "Happy Thanksgiving" See you on the water... Richard

Fishing Report for the week of 11/05/05 - 11/11/05

The fall pattern is on, look for the best bite shallow around sloughs and in the back of creeks.  Try rippin a lipless crank bait (Rat-L-Trap, Cordell Spot etc.) through the weeds around the Lakeport and Nice area in the shad colors. Spinner baits are also working. Haven't been doing any drop shoting because the reaction bite is a lot more fun and it's catching from 18 to 24 bass per half day trip to over 6 pounds. Clients this week and last week averaged over 22 pounds for their best five on every trip..   "Tight Lines"!

Fishing Report for the week of 10/29/05 - 11/04/05

Clients this week did very good using Rat-l-Trap's, catching fish to over 6 pounds in the north end in the back of coves and sloughs, I even caught a nice 8.3 lb'er on a spinner bait (Persuader "Bleeding Minnow").  Now that the weather is changing look for the bite to slow down but not quite yet, at least not today because I was out today and caught over 20 bass to 6lbs with the best 5 going over 23 pounds. The bigger fish are now showing up more often. Have fun out there, hope to see you on the water..  Richard

Fishing Report for the week of 10/22/05 - 10/28/05

This weather is just about right for some very good fall fishing, over cast with some rain is great for some top water action.  The larger bass should be putting on the feed bag getting fat for the winter. Drop shoting as well as just about every thing;ie crank, spinner baits and jig's should work when you get in the right location. The trick is finding just where that is.. Both the north and south ends are producing.  "Tight Lines"   Richard

Fishing Report for the week of 10/15/05 - 10/21/05

Well its back to work. I took a couple of weeks off to catch up on some "honey-dues" and stay out of the way of all the big bass tournaments which are still going on every weekend for the next month but I can't stay of the water any longer..  The fishing is still rated as good with a variety of ways to catch them however most are only in the 1 to 3 pound class. Drop-shoting is your best bet for numbers with an occasional 5 or better pound bass.  Both the north and south ends are producing in water from 2' to 20'. Just keep in mind with all the fishing pressure the lake is receiving whichever lure you use, retrieve it very slow..   "Have fun out there and be safe"   Richard

Fishing Report for the week of 09/17/05 - 09/23/05

Things are just about the same as the last few weeks. Clients did very good this week catching a lot of fish to 5 plus pounds on drop shot, also caught some nice bass to 4 plus on spinner and crank baits. The north and south ends are working well. Water temp has cooled down to around 68 in the am to about 72 in the afternoon. As for depth, the fish are holding anywhere from 2' to 26'. The bigger bass were holding on breaks in about 5 to 8' of water.   Have a good time out there!    Richard

Fishing Report for the week of 09/10/05 - 09/16/05

The bass bite continues to be good, although the numbers have dropped. Spinner, crank and drop shot baits are your go-to baits, also if you like to toss a jig in the tules and work it out that will get the job done as well.  Top water and frog fish are still iffy, your best time is first thing in the morning.  "Tight Lines" see you on the water...   Richard

Fishing Report for the week of 09/03/05 - 09/09/05

Clients this week did very well catching bass to 5.10 pounds.  Most were caught on the drop shot in water from 3 feet to 20 feet mostly from State Park south. Also a lot of fish were caught on crankbaits. Now that the weather is changing this weekend, I look for the bite to slow down, but not much. Stay with the drop shot around docks and tules, rock piles are always good this time of year with crank baits and jig's. Have fun out there, hope to see you on the water... Richard

Fishing Report for the week of 08/27/05 - 09/02/05

If the bite gets any better you won't have to use any bait at all!  Clients this week caught bass using just about every thing: crankbaits, spinnerbaits, frogs and drop shot baits. Both the north and south ends are producing fish. Rocks , tules and docks are holding bass in water from 2' to 20'. If you don't get bit in an area after 10 to 15 minutes you should move.. Have fun out there and be safe this Labor Day Weekend.

Fishing Report for the week of 08/20/05 - 08/26/05

Not much to add from last week's report other than the bite continues to be good all over the lake with 20 to 40 bass for just a half day trip ! So stop wishin' and lets go fishin'!....Richard

PS: the salmon fishing last weekend was great, with a 30 lb'er for big fish..

Fishing Report for the week of 08/13/05 - 08/19/06

It just keeps getting better and better!  Clients the first part of this week had outstanding frog bites going in and around the tules in the State Park area.  Spinner and crankbaits are also working but not as well as the last couple of weeks and of course the trusted drop shot is catching bass to 5+ pounds.  If you are fishin' this weekend I would stay clear of Konocti Bay area because of the"wake board competition" Hope you-all have a great weekend. I'm going salmon fishin', see you on the water next week..   "Tight Lines"   Richard

Fishing Report for the week of 08/06/05 - 08/12/06

When it's hot it's hot!  And I'm not talking about the weather. The bass are biting all over the lake on just about everything.  The drop shot is the main producer but the frog is getting the larger bass.  Just go fishin' and have a lot of fun!   Drink lots of water, it's hot out there.   "Tight Lines"    Richard

Fishing Report for the week of 07/30/05 - 08/05/05

Not much has changed from last week. The bass are biting all over the lake. Clients this week did very well using crank baits in mid lake and the north end with 'Lucky Craft Flat CB in american shad pattern.  Take lot's of water as it's very hot out there!   Tight Lines..  Richard

Fishing Report for the week of 07/23/05 - 07/29/05

Hot weather, hot bite.  Clients this week had a very good time catching over 200 bass! The south end has been the hot ticket this week. Crank baits, drop shot on rock banks and rock piles have been the best bet. The north end is also working with the same lures, try cranking in front of the tules with a Speed-trap on just about any color. Drop shot is also working on the tules however not as many bass are being caught as down south.    Stay cool and hope to see you on the water... Richard

Fishing Report for the week of  07/16/05 - 07/22/05

The tules in the north end are still holding fish on the outer edges but clients are having to work harder this week compared to last week. Drop shotting is your best bet in both the north and south ends. Clients this week did best in mid lake south to Rattlesnake Island, catching bass to 6.8 pounds. Top water bite? Here one day and gone the next. Hope for it to break open in the next few weeks. "Tight Lines" and have a good week .   Richard

Fishing Report for the week of  07/09/05 - 07/15/05

Summer is here and so are the bass. Try drop shotting around tules in the am then go to shade, docks and weeds. Clients this week were catching bass to 5 lbs and lost a few that looked better than 5 pounds.. One  father and son combo caught 67 for their efforts and they all were keepers to 4.75 pounds. Not a bad day!  I had a cancellation for today, so I went fishin' any-way..I gave the old buzz bait another try and this time I had 10 blow-up's and caught 6 of them. The best 5 a little over 20 pounds.. The trick is just to find good shade and around weeds and work it slow! They all came on the Persuader "Two Timer' and the "Double Buzzer" The north end is your best bet from State Park and around to Lakeport to Nice.. Good luck out there! Hope to see you on the water..  Richard

Fishing Report for the weeks of  06/25/05 - 07/08/05

Too much water (2' over last year at this time) may be one of the reasons for the lack of quality bass being caught plus the numbers for small fish are down from last year. The Lakeport area has an abundance of weeds, so much so that the bass are scattered and not under docks as much as they should be. Drop shotting the front of tules is very good one day and sucks the next?  Rockpiles in the north and south end have been producing using drop shot, jigs and crankbaits. As for top water...ugh'. However last week I was able to put a 6.8 and 7.75 lb'er in the boat using Persuader "New Buzz baits but they were the only  strikes I had.. Clients last week enjoyed catching bass up to 8.1 lbs.on drop shot 6" worm. This week with the 4th the bite was ok with a few fish that would have been 5 or better if they would have stayed on %$#@. "Oh well that's fishin'   Hope you-all have a great time on the water!  Tight Lines..  Richard

Fishing Report for the weeks of  06/11/05 - 06/24/05

Now that the weather has been more consistent "at last" the bite will start getting into a summer pattern. Clients this week have been doing well on drop shot rigged with a 6" robo mm3.  The south end has been the best, however in the past two days the north is turning on better. Crankbaits over rockpiles or along the shoreline down south is working. The topwater bite is off and on, I think it should start getting better in the near future.  Looks as though the spawn is about 75% over. I did get an 8 lb'er and a 5 plus while sight fishing last week and this week but thats about all I saw. The water clarity is not good at all. Water temperature today: 73°.  "Tight Lines" Take Care.
