Fishing Report for the week of 6/26-7/02
The bite is red hot! Just about
everything is working from deep water to two feet. If you are into buzz baits
look for shade in and around docks and next to weeds, spinner baits are also
productive used in the same places. Jigs (brown) drop-shot 4 to 6 inch worms and
crank baits are working in and around rock piles in both the north and south
arms of the lake. The down side is with all the boat traffic this weekend, the
bite may turn off. See you-all on the water. Enjoy the 4th of July and be safe!

Fishing Report for the week of 6/19-6/25
Fishing this week is about the same as
last week. Drop shot with 6in. worms around tules, docks and rock piles. Mid
lake and south has been good for the deeper water, up to 17 feet. Crank baits
some spinner baits and the frog have been putting some bass in the boat.
Look for the frog bite to improve as the weeds start to mat over. Larger
bass are still hard to come by (5lbs plus) Clients this week caught 274
bass with several over 4lbs. but no 5 lb'ers. That's all folks, have fun
and be safe! Richard

Fishing Report for the week of 6/12-6/18
Summer bite is turning on! Clients this
week have caught bass on buzz baits, spinner baits and crank baits, however the
larger bass up to 7.1 lbs have been caught on drop shot rigs as well as other
fish from 4 to 6 plus lbs. The pattern is still the same as before: tules,
docks plus some off shore weed mats. Both the south and north ends of the lake
are turning out a lot of fish now although a lot are small but strong! Clients
have been averaging 25 fish for a half day and 40 for a full day. Good
Fishing and Happy Father"s Day!! Richard

Fishing Report for the week of 6/5-6/11
Looks as though the wind is about over,
let's hope so! Clients this week have been catching a lot of fish but in the
small size ( 1 to 4 lbs). Drop shot rigs are still the rig of choice for putting
bass in the boat. A few bass are hitting spinner baits and crank baits, look for
these to improve with the warming days. I have not been down to the south end
because of the wind, however there have been reports in the last two days of
some better fish being caught on rock piles. Try dart heads with salt and pepper
grubs and crank baits. Water temp as of 11am today was 67°, water clarity
about 3 feet with a light algae bloom. Good Fishing and tightlines!

Fishing Report for the week of 5/29-6/04
Looks as if the
"postspawn/summer" transition is in full swing with a lot of small
bass being caught with the occasional 5 lb'er and up. However I look for things
to change in the next week or two. The summer pattern will have more large bass
coming to the net and the top water bite will improve. The pattern will remain
the same as now ie; drop shot rigs under docks and around tules also buzz and
spinner baits and frogs. Water temperature is around 72° and visibility about 3
feet. Have fun out there! Richard

Fishing Report for the week of 5/22-5/28
It's beginning to look like the wind will
never stop! I would like to fish south end but not until things settle
down. Then on the other hand the fishing up north is good to very good and you
can get out of the wind in most places around Lakeport. This week has been mixed
with a lot of small bass and not very many keepers. Big bass was 6.1 with three
others at 5 plus lbs. for clients. Persuader buzz and spinner baits in w/t
and chartreuse accounted for a couple of the 5 lb'ers, while drop shot rigs
caught the other large bass. All in all it was a good week. Try fishing docks
and tule lines in water from 2 to 10 feet. Just keep at it and it will work for
you ! Be safe this weekend and good luck! Richard

Fishing Report for the week of 5/15-5/21
It looks as if the postspawn bass are the
key to better fishing. Clients this week have been doing good with 5 bass of
5lbs or better, with big bass this week weighing in at 7.1lbs! Also been
catching a lot of fish from 1.8 to a little over 4 lbs. Drop shot rigs have been
doing the best under docks when the sun gets up. Also along tule lines before
the sun gets to them. There is a frog and buzz bait bite if you look for weeds
in shallow water. Clients this week were catching them up to 4.8 lbs. Nice to
see a top water bite again! All the bass came from the north part of
the lake from State Park and around to Lakeport and Nice. From the reports
I've been getting from the south end, it sounds like the bass are small but
plentiful. Keep an eye on the winds.. Tight lines! See you on the water..

Fishing Report for the week of 5/08-5/14
Fishing this week has been good to great
if you like catching small bass ( 1 to 3 lbs) but then who doesn't like catching
fish? If you are a sight fishing person, your chances are much better for the
big bass which have started to move back on their beds now that the wind has
slowed down and the weather is warming up. Water temperature today was 64°. The
drop-shot rig is still your best bet, however today the Senko saved the day with
a nice 4 and 5 lb'er. Those were the only two caught on Senko's, 17 others were
on drop-shot from 1 to 3 plus lbs. I'm sorry but I have no reports from the
south end, I've only been fishing the north end around docks and tules from
State Park to Lakeport in water 3 to 10 feet.
PS: also caught some bass to 4 lbs on rip
baits off the tule lines. Be safe, there are a lot of people fishing this week
end. Hope to see you on the water! Richard.

Fishing Report for the week of 5/01-5/07
The fishing improved a little from last
week. We've been averaging 30 keepers per trip with quite a few fish
running from 2 to 4 lbs, the biggest for the week being a 5 lb 11oz'er.
The bass are now on their spawning beds
and a lot of the large females are either on the beds or staging just outside of
them. Drop-shot rigs and Staysee ripbaits are the top lure choices. Try outside
of tule lines and just inside of them as well as docks in 3 to 8 feet of water.
Good Fishin..................Richard.

Fishing Report for the week of 4/24-4/30
I wish I could say this has been a good
week but it hasn't, just a lot of small fish. Big fish this week was 5
lbs, with the rest from 1 to 3 lbs. Most of them caught on drop-shot under docks
and in and around tules. With the warmer weather I thought the spawning
would be in full swing but that doesn't seem to be the case, at least in the
north end. Perhaps with the full moon approaching (May4) and if the water clears
up more, things will improve. Hope to see you on the water,
good luck it will get better! Richard
Fishing Report for the week of 4/17-4/23
Most of this week had a lot of wind and
some rain, however my clients did good but mostly on minnows. Drop-shoting was
catching bass but most were on the small side. Big bass this week went to Ruby
Rice a nice 6.1 lb'er.. Now with the weather starting to improve, look for
the bass to move up to start their spawn again. Water temperature today was 61
by 12:30 pm, it should get up to around 65 by this afternoon late. Try drop-shot
and senkos in the North end. In the south end look for the bass off the ends of
docks in deeper water using the same baits as the north end.
"Stop wishin' let's go Fishin' Be safe... Richard
Fishing Report for the week of 4/10-4/16
The weather is once again keeping the
bass up and down plus the FLW Tournament that started Wednesday with 152 boats
hasn't helped fishing either. Now they are down to the top 20 boats for Friday
and only the top 10 for Saturday. I think most of the bass that were on beds
and/or about to have moved out to deeper water because of the fishing pressure
and cool weather.
My clients have been doing well with
drop-shot rigs, Senkos and minnows. Big bass so far this week is 8.10 lb'er.
If you are more into "power fishing" try swim-baits and spinner baits,
however your best bet is the drop-shot, it will put fish in the boat and large
ones like the 10.2 from last year and 9.5 from this year...The water temperature
is around 57 to 60 degrees. The south end of the lake is also starting to turn
on..Good Luck, hope to see you on the water and always "set the hook"!

Fishing Report for the week of 4/04-4/09
This warm weather should start the
spawning cycle. I have not looked for bedding fish myself but other people have
seen some in the last two days (Thursday and Friday). Water temperature is
around 60 to 65, so if the weather holds they should "lock on" to the
beds. My clients have been doing very good with drop shot and Senkos with bass
up to 5 lbs. Minnows are catching the bigger bass up to 10.9 lbs! The North end
is your best bet, try the outer edge of the tules with minnows and further in
with drop shot rigs and Senkos. Also try docks in the Lakeport area and around
to the Nice/Lucerne Area. Good luck and keep a tight line! ....Richard

Here's the 10.9 lb'er that was caught with a live jumbo
minnow on 4-09-04:

Fishing Report for the week of 3/29-4/02
Fishing, like the weather, has been up and down. Starting
with Monday March 29th, just about everything was working. Clients caught bass
up to 9.9 lbs using jumbo minnows plus a lot of bass on drop-shot up to 4 lbs.
The rest of the week has seen the bite slow down even with minnows but still
catching fish up to 6 plus lbs. What works now? Try jigs up tight (black &
blue) drop-shot, rip baits (pointer 78 shad) Now with the full moon look
for the bass to move up again to spawn however the water temp is only around 57
as of Friday. If the wind lays down and the water clears and the water temp goes
up to around 65 look for bass locked on their beds.
Remember: " life is just one more cast" Have
fun be safe!..............Richard

Fishing Report for the week of 3/22-3/26
This week has been very good untill the weather change. The
cool rain and wind on Wednesday caused the bite to almost go away. My
client and I only managed to catch 5 bass in a three hour trip. Today was
much better, using rip baits and drop-shot plus minnows. Before the change in
weather (Wednesday) the fishing was so-so, but senkos and drop shot worked well
with bass up to 9.5lbs. Look for a good bite if the weather improves this
weekend. The north end of the lake is your best bet. Spinner baits, ripbaits,
drop-shot and swimbait should turn back on as well. Water temp today
(Friday) was only 52°, down from 64° three days ago. Good luck and tight
lines!

Fishing Report for the week of 3/15-3/19
Boy can you belive this heat!! However because of the heat
the shad die off is hurting the lure bite. Some bass have moved into the creeks
but not on beds yet. That could change with the new moon any day now. Clients
have been catching 20 to 25 fish per 4 hour trip weighing from 1.8 to 3.8 lbs on
spinner baits, drop shot rigs and live jumbo minnows. Swim baits have been
catching the larger bass up to 11.5 lbs. Minnows are working the best. Keep to
the shallow water in the north end for your bigger bass. Have fun be safe, see
you on the water........Richard

Fishing Report for the week of March 8
Because of the spring type weather, the bass are moving up shallow. Water
temp in the AM is around 50° and in the PM 60°.
My clients have been catching 20 to 25 bass for a 4 to 5 hour trip (all
nice bass) using minnows, rip baits, spinner baits, crank baits and drop shot
rigs. Swim baits are also working very well at this time. The north end of the
lake is clearing and producing most of the better fish. Good Luck!

I will try and do this report every week. Stop Wishin-Let's go
Fishin!!................Richard
PS March 12: I caught the 11.5 lb'er below on a Persuader
Swimbait (8 inch hitch pattern).
