Using artificials this year for the Fall bite has
not been very good, mainly because of the overabundance of bait fish
including baby bass, crappie, hitch & silversides, also threadfin
shad are starting to show-up. Even the minnow bite is slower than in
the past but they are your best bet. Clients this week averaged 2 1/2
bass per hour plus a couple of catfish per trip. Most of the better
bites have been mid lake and south in water from 6 to 25'. As for
lures; jigs, crank & lipless crankbaits and some swimbaits in the
6" class have been putting some bass in the boat. Water
temperatures are staying around 60 degrees. "Tight-Lines" Richard

It's been a busy month for good old Clear Lake with
a lot of big tournaments with as many as 80, 86, 119 & 180 boats
participating. The good news is there are no more big tournaments for
the rest of this year so the bite should improve after this weekend.
That much pressure on a bite that was tough to begin with has made it
even tougher. Minnows are your best bet. "Tight-Lines" Richard

Well, I would like to say the bite is better but
that's not the case. My last report is still true this week. The only
thing that's better is live minnows, they are working very well.
Clients this week caught from 13 to 14 quality bass to 6 pounds and 5
catfish which is not bad for just a 1/2 day trip.

Cool fronts and wind all this week have slowed the
bite down, however it started to get better on Thursday and so the
weekend should be much better. Clients had a tough bite even on
minnows until yesterday (see pictures). Spinner and crank baits
have been the best producers in water from 3' to 15'. Top water with
a Sierra Spook has been getting some nice bass but not a lot, as with
most every thing the numbers are way down for this lake. Water
temperature yesterday at noon was 68 degrees. Be safe and catch a big
bass. "Tight-Lines" Richard

The fishing has improved but still tougher than it
should be. The fall bite will improve when this heat wave goes away
and I hope it is soon. The bite remains the same as last week, with
top water, spinner baits, lipless crank and crank baits and jigs
being the top producers. Both the north and south ends are working
but I have had the best luck in the mid to north end of the lake. As
before just keep moving and with a little luck you may find a nice
school of bass and load the boat, which did happen last week for one
of our local fisherman, I think he said they caught 50 nice bass.
Don't know where other than it was in water from 3' to 6' and they
were not there the next time he went out. That's the deal they are on
the move. "Tight-Lines" Richard

Fishing did improve over the weekend with the fall
type weather. The tournament guys did good with 26 pounds taking 1st
place. How did they do that? "no one is talking" My
guess is jigs, Senkos and lipless crank baits. Top water is also
working but not a lot of bites, but then there is not a lot of bites
on other lures, its just a case of trying a lot of spots. Mid lake
has been the best for me in water from 20' to 3'. The good news is
that there is a lot of baby bass, from 2" to 6", so if this
winter is not too bad the future looks good for our bass population
to get back to normal. Have fun and keep a "Tight-Line" Richard

The fishing remains tough but with this change of
weather this weekend, things should improve. The fishing,
either north or south, is about the same, it's just a case of trying
a variety lures and plastics until something starts working for you.
Hope to have a better report next week.

Not much has changed from my last report, the
fishin' is still very slow, however the algae and weeds are starting
to go away with these cooler days and nights. Both the north and
south parts of the lake are producing but it's hit and miss. Senkos
and drop shot are your best bets, but just about every thing works if
you find some active bass so just keep looking and if you get lucky
and find a school, catch them now because they, in most cases, will
move by the next day. Be safe! "Tight-Lines" Richard

Algae and weeds are still here but less than before
so things are starting to improve. The bite is still fair at best and
I look for it to improve as the Fall weather starts to move in.
Clients have been catching bass on a variety of lures, namely on drop
shot and Senkos. Lipless and shallow running crank baits are also
working in the north end as well as spinnerbaits and jigs. Topwater
early or late in the afternoon has been very slow but some action if
you are in the right area, the big question is where is that? Here's
hoping you have a good & safe Holiday. Richard

Not much to tell, the bite is very, very slow.
Fishing the south and mid lake or the north end is just about the
same. Drop shot and Senkos plus some jig fish seem to be your best
bet. Top water is hit or miss, mostly miss. Good luck out there, you
will need it. Tight-Lines" Richard

Clients did okay this week averaging just over 6
bass for a ½ day trip until today when the wheels came off. My
clients did not get a bite and that's a first for me! Before today
the best bite was on a Baby Brush Hog fished on a drop shot in water
from 8' to 30'. Today they tried a little of everything, but to no
avail. Reports from around the lake have not been very good either
but some guys have caught bass on crankbaits, spinnerbaits, wakebaits
& frogs, Jigs are also in the mix. So it comes down to
"junk" fishing. Locating fish is the big problem and once
you do, catch as many as you can because they will in most cases move
by the next day which is what happened this week. So good luck out
there. "Tight-Lines" Richard.

Clients this week did better than last week, thank
goodness. They're getting on average of 11 bites per half day trip
with between 7 and 9 bass landed on each outing plus some catfish as
well. We're using drop shot, Senkos, jigs & shaky head fished in
mid lake in water from 4 feet to 30 feet. We tried some top water but
just had one blow-up and that was it. I guess if you fished with
frogs all day you may get a very good limit but that's a lot of work
and is very iffy. Good luck out there and have fun!

Had the worst week of my career of 11 years as a
guide on Clear Lake this week. I just could not get my clients on
very many bites. One client got a quality 7 lber but the numbers are
way down. Senkos, drop shot and a littlie top water action on Zara
Spooks & poppers. Mid lake and south is your best bet. Good luck
out there, you will need it. "Tight-Lines" Richard

I would like to say that the bite has improved, but
that is not the case. Clients are getting 4 to 7 bass for a ½
day trip (4 hours) which is not the 5 per hour that we are used to.
Why? One of the reasons is lack of food. No threadfin shad, small
amounts of bluegill & sliverside minnows and very few small bass,
½ to 1 pound types. Low water levels for the past 2 to 3 years
have left the spawn from those years exposed, meaning the fry did not
have the cover to survive. Things should improve in the next few
years now that the water level is up, mean while it is what it is, so
just enjoy what Clear Lake has to offer it's still the best lake on
the planet if you ask me.. Jigs, drop shot & Senkos are still
your best bet in water from 4 feet to 25 feet. Good Luck out there
and "Tight-Lines"...Richard

Now that the water temperature is as high as the
mid 80's in the afternoon, the bite has cooled off. Top water action
very early and late can put some bass in the boat but it's far from
being good. That is also true for the frog bite. The north end is
still your best bet with drop shot and Senkos fished under docks and
weed lines. In the south end you can get some bites on jigs fished
around rock piles. Fish very slow for all the above methods. Drink
lot's of water!! "Tight-Lines" Richard

Clients this week used a variety of lures such as,
spinnerbaits, flippin sweet beavers and large brush hogs, spooks,
frogs and poppers. Their numbers using these lures were OK but for
more bass the Senkos and drop shot were still the best producers. The
north end from State park around to Lakeport and Nice and Lucerne are
your best bet. Water temperatures are in the mid 70's. "Tight-Lines"

July 2, 2010
The fishing has improved with the water now in the
low 70's, Top water is still a little slow but getting better.
Clients this week did very good on Senkos & drop shot with the
best morning limit going around 22+ pounds. A variety of lures are
working but the soft plastic fished very slow is still your best bet.
Not sure what the south end is doing as all of my most recent trips
have been in the Lakeport area. Drink a lot of water in this hot sun
because you can become dehydrated before you know it, as I did early
this week. Be safe and "Tight-Lines" Richard
