The cooler water has cooled the bite. It's that time of year to slow every thing down and try a lot of spots. Jigs and drop shot are your best bet. The minnow bite is your best way to catch a lot more bass than with lures. Both ends of the lake are producing fish but my clients have been doing better in the north end than in the south. Water temperature has been running in the mid 40's. "Tight-Lines" Richard

Live jumbo minnows are your best bet but there is a lipless crank bait bite and jigs are also catching some nice bass in the southern end of the lake. The best bite for the lipless crank bait is in the northern part of the lake using the yo-yo type of retrieve. Good luck and dress warm.. "Tight-Lines"

November 27, 2009

Lure fishin' has slowed down to only a few bass per day. Crank baits and drop shot are your best bets. On the other hand minnows will put a lot of bass in the boat. This week clients caught two bass over 7 pounds and one over 6 plus seven in the 5 pound range. Both the north and south ends of the lake are kicking out some nice bass. Water temperatures are running from 49 in the am to 53 degrees in the pm. "Tight-Lines"

November 20, 2009 (No report this week)

Sorry folks, I didn't get out at all this week. I have a few trips scheduled for this coming week so hopefully I'll have a report and some photos next week. "Tight-Lines" Richard

Now that my hand is better I am back on the water after 4 weeks. The water temperature has dropped into the mid 50's and up to 58 degrees, the fall bite is OK but the problem is finding them. Both the south and north ends are producing fish  in water from 2 feet to 25 feet. Lipless crank baits have been the go to bait for the early morning bite, then the good old drop shot or jig takes over for the better bite. Minnows are the best way to catch a lot of bass and 20 plus fish for a half day are common. Whereas the lure bite is around 5 to 10 bass for a half day.  "Tight-Lines"   Richard

Since I haven't fished for quite awhile until this week, I only have one new photo so far HERE.

November 6, 2009 (No report this week)

Due to my having an irritating skin cancer removed from my right thumb scheduled for October 22, 2009, I haven't been fishing very much so I don't have a report this week. It will probably be at least three weeks before I have another fishing report, however, check back in a couple of weeks just in case. Tight Lines.......Richard

This week's report is similar to last week's. The same lures are working, swimbaits, crankbaits & lipless crank baits and drop shot. The best areas are still mid lake south in water from 2 feet to 25 feet. The good news is that if the storms this Monday through Wednesday produce the rain they're predicting, the algae should be all but gone and the fall bite should improve greatly. October 2, 2009

The cool front that came in on Tuesday did not help the bass bite on Wednesday, which had blue bird skys and no wind, however Thursday the bite improved, but no large bass. The water temperature dropped from 75 to 66 degrees from Sunday to this Thursday. Clients this week caught bass to 4½ pounds with a lot of 3 lbers. A variety of lures are working; swimbaits, crankbaits & lipless crank baits and of course drop shot. Most fish have been coming from mid lake south in water from 2 feet to 25 feet. The trick is still to just keep on the move, trying a lot of presentations. "Tight-Lines"   Richard

September 25, 2009

Hot weather has started the algae bloom again, just as it was getting better and as a result the bite has slowed down again but there is action on a variety of lures. The south end is still your best bet. Clients this week caught most of their bass on swimbaits and crankbaits, with the drop shot coming in second. Water temperature has been running around 75 degrees. "Tight-Lines" Richard

September 18, 2009

Not much has changed from last week except that the bite has slowed down. There has been a lot of pressure from large tournaments ( 100 boats last week and 109 boats this Friday & Saturday). Clients did OK but we had to do a lot of moving around to find bass and not too many in any one spot, just one or two on each spot. Mid lake and south is still your best bet. "Tight-Lines" Richard

September 11, 2009

The fall bite is starting to show some signs of life but it's not quite here yet. Cooler nights and days should kick off that bite in the next few weeks. As of now just about everything is working but the big problem is finding them, so just keep moving and try a variety of lures on any spot where you think bass should be..  "Tight-Lines"   Richard

September 4, 2009

Jig's, spinner baits, crank & lipless crank baits and drop shot are all working. Also top water poppers & frogs but that bite is slowing down as the weeds are disappearing. The best fishin' has been mid lake and south. The north end is also producing some numbers around off shore weeds and under docks. The trick is still to keep moving until you locate some bass. As an example, today I went out looking for upcoming clients fish and after working five docks the sixth one did the trick with nine bass on drop shot under it.

Things have not changed much from last week, however I have been doing well for bigger bass flippin a jig or drop shot on docks in the Lakeport area in water as shallow as 1 to 3 feet. The bass have been weighing in at 4 to 5 plus pounds.  The topwater bite is still fairly productive as well.

August 21, 2009

Silverside minnows are showing up in large numbers all around the lake, look for them around weed mats and that's where you will find the bass. Frogs, Horny Toads and top water poppers fished around and on top of the weed mats is your best bet for some long awaited top water action. Crank and lipless crank baits are also working in water from 6' to 15' and of course, drop shot and jigs will put some bass in your boat. "Tight-Lines" Richard -

August 14, 2009

A lot of wind this week didn't seem to hurt the bass fishin', however it limited the areas one could get on. The north end around Lakeport has shown some improvement as the weeds are starting to disperse. The trick is to keep moving until you locate a bass or two, then just work that area over very slowly. That's also true for the rest of the lake. Jigs, drop shot and crank baits are the best producer, even yo-yo-ing a LV 500 has been working in water from 6' to 15. "Tight-Lines"    Richard

August 7, 2009

Despite the sudden change in weather and the water temperatures dropping from 80+ to 75 degrees, the fishin' continues to improve in most areas with the south end and mid lake being the most productive. The north end around the Lakeport area has also began to pump out more bass, as the weeds are going away and the bass are concentrating in smaller areas. Jigs and dropshot are still your best bet with some crank bait bass being caught. "Tight-Lines" Richard

July 31, 2009

High temperatures and heavy algae has made the fishing very poor on good old Clear Lake. Most if not all the fishermen that I have talked to are having to work hard for just 5 to 10 bass per day. There is some good news though, weeds in the north end are starting to go away so the bass may start to concentrate in smaller areas. Mid lake and south are still your best bet for fishin' with drop shot and jigs, fish them very, very slow.. "Tight-Lines" Richard
